Wassil Christov

  Wassil Christov was born in Haskovo, Bulgaria where he started his musical career by playing the guitar at the age of 12.
  An year later he started to play the trombone and at the age of 14 he began his musical education at the "Hristina Morfova" Music School in Stara Zagora, tutored by Prof. Kostadin Takov.
  Later, in 1989 he completed successfully his studies in Stara Zagora and continued playing the trombone at the "Pancho Vladigerov" State Academy of Music in Sofia under Prof. Petar Popov.
  After recieveing a scholarchip and becoming a member of the "Acadia" Youth Orchestra (La Neuvevielle, Switzerland) Wassil Christov had the opportunity to gain some orchestra experience playing there for an year.
  His way led him later to Prof. Branimir Slokar and the Hochschule fűr Musik und Theater in Bern, Switzerland where he continued his trombone studies and finished them with a Concert Diploma in 1993 and a Soloist Diploma in 1997.
  Wassil Christov won many local competitions in Bulgaria and also prizes at the International Trombone Competition in Berlin, the "Citta di Porcia" in Italy and at the Kerkrade in Holland.
Nowadays besides his pedagogical activities Wassil Christov gave many concerts and also among others as a soloist with Bern Symphony Orchestra, Bern Wind Symphony Orchestra and OPUS Orchestra. Since 1994 he is the principal trombone of the Bern Symphony Orchestra. He is also the trombone teacher at the Bern Conservatory and for already more than ten years member of the Slokar Quartet.
